Artist Statement: Hydrosphere & Light
My photography is shaped by the Pacific Northwest’s hydrosphere — a landscape where water is not a backdrop but an active force. For more than thirty years, I’ve worked in the space between cloud and earth, where rain, mist, and shifting light create an atmosphere found nowhere else.
I’m drawn to the moments when moisture transforms the ordinary: fog softening the edges of a forest, a single beam of sunlight breaking through storm clouds, the reflective sheen that settles on streets just after the rain. These conditions deepen color, reveal hidden textures, and create a luminous quality that guides how I compose and interpret each frame.
My work explores this constant exchange between sky and ground. Through the camera, I capture a region that survives and thrives through saturation — a place where greens glow, shadows carry weight, and light behaves differently because the air itself is alive.
